Below are commonly requested items and important details to help you get the most out of your new site. Please take a moment to review them.

Editing Your Website

You can access and download our Spectra set up guide, which will hopefully be helpful to get you started editing the template at this URL: https://www.commerce7templates.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Spectra-Theme-Setup-Guide.pdf

The Content Management System (CMS) you are using is WordPress. It is a well known platform and is well documented so you can find a lot of information online.

Administrative Pages

Your site contains the following administrative pages that are needed for the site to function and these should not be deleted, renamed or altered in any way:

  • Cart
  • Checkout
  • Club (this is different from Wine Club, which is the page you can edit and work on)
  • Collection
  • Product
  • Profile
Unused Pages

Your template comes with many of pre-made pages such as Our Vineyards, Our History, Blog, Recipes, etc. You can use use these as a starting point if you wish or discard them and start your pages from scratch. Any pre-made page that you don’t use should either be deleted or turned to draft mode to prevent it from showing in Google results for your site with irrelevant information.

To delete a page, go to the Pages area and hover over the name of the page until you see links appear, then click on Trash

Putting a page in draft mode instead ensures you have access to it if you wish to use it at a later time. To set a page to draft, hover over the page name in the Pages area until you see links appear and click on Quick Edit then update the status from Published to Draft and click on the blue Update button on the left.

Plugins

One of the main advantages of WordPress is that you can extend the functionality of your website by adding plugins. Plugins are great but they’re also the number one way websites’ security gets breached so it’s important to only use the plugins you absolutely need.

Clients will often install plugins to add Google Analytics or a form to their site but there are more efficient ways to do both. Feel free to send a note explaining  what you’re trying to achieve to skylar@wineworks.co and I can offer suggestions for a trusted plugin or alternate method.

Google Analytics/Google Tag Manager

The best way to add Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager is via a script Google gives you when you select Manual Installation on their platform.

Copy the script and go to your site, select Theme Settings from the black sidebar on the left, then scroll until you get to the Custom Scripts section. Add the script to the head (GA) and/or the head and body (GTM sections. Scroll back up and click the blue Update button in the top right to publish your change.

Note that it can take up to 48 hours for information to start flowing through to Google.

GTM

Going Live

You have 2 options for go live:

1. You can invite us to your domain registrar (usually the service you used to purchase your domain) and we can take care of the entire process for you, including adding the Commerce7 SPK, DKIM and DMARC records.

2. We can provide the values that need to be updated to make your new site live for you or a third party to make the updates. This works best if you’re experiences with making DNS updates or are working with someone who is. With this option, you are responsible for adding the C7 records.
